President GOÏTA Initiates Construction of 15 New Hospitals in Mali!
Bamako, November 10, 2025. General Assimi GOÏTA, President of the Transition, officially launched the Presidential Emergency Hospital Project by laying its cornerstone. This significant ceremony, held at the Korofina Reference Health Center in Commune I of the Bamako District, marks the commencement of a substantial initiative designed to upgrade Mali’s national healthcare infrastructure.
Colonel-Major Assa Badiallo TOURÉ, the Minister of Health and Social Development, emphasized that this undertaking aligns seamlessly with the recommendations from the General States of Health held in December 2024. These deliberations had highlighted the critical need to enhance both the accessibility and quality of medical services throughout the nation.
Comprehensive Restructuring of Mali’s Hospital System
The Minister outlined that this ambitious project is set to achieve a profound “modernization and restructuring” of the existing hospital framework. It encompasses the construction of 15 brand-new hospitals and the conversion of current Reference Health Centers (CSREF) within the Bamako District into fully operational District hospitals. The entire venture, funded exclusively by the national budget, is projected to take 12 months for facilities in Bamako and 24 months for those in the regions.
The Presidential Emergency Hospital Project is structured around three primary components:
- The transformation of CSREF facilities across Bamako’s seven arrondissements into modern district hospitals.
- The establishment of new district hospitals in the localities of Bla and Kangaba.
- The development of state-of-the-art regional hospitals in San, Koutiala, Bougouni, Dioïla, Nioro, Bandiagara, and Koulikoro.
These forthcoming medical facilities will be outfitted with cutting-edge medical equipment, feature expanded inpatient capacities, and offer specialized services. Notably, this will include advanced hemodialysis units for the hospitals located in Bamako’s 1st and 6th arrondissements.
Ensuring Progress and Quality Healthcare for Malians
Following the ceremony, the President of the Transition reiterated the fundamental importance of health as a cornerstone for national development. He instructed the Minister of Health to diligently oversee the project, ensuring uninterrupted public service during construction and strict adherence to contractual timelines. President GOÏTA also underscored the human-centric goal of this initiative: to bring high-quality healthcare closer to all citizens, thereby reducing the need for medical evacuations and alleviating pressure on existing medical institutions.
