The government of the Mali transition announced on Friday that it has restored diplomatic relations with Algeria, including the return of its ambassador and reopening of its airspace to flights from and to Algeria.
“In the framework of the relaunch of the dynamic of cooperation and friendship between the Republic of Mali and the Democratic People’s Republic of Algeria, the government of the Republic of Mali has decided on the return of its extraordinary and plenipotentiary ambassador to Algiers,” said a statement from the Malian government.
The statement also noted that “the airspace of Mali is open to all civilian and military aircraft ensuring flights from and to Algeria.”
This decision comes just hours after Algeria announced the reopening of its airspace to Malian aircraft, marking a new stage in the normalization of relations between the two countries.
