The Malian Armed Forces have declared that they have seized the initiative and regained control across all conflict zones targeted by the National Movement for the Liberation of Azawad (FLA) in the north and the Group for the Support of Islam and Muslims (JNIM), an Al-Qaeda affiliate, in central and southern regions.
In an official statement, the Malian military reported that intense clashes resumed on Sunday in Anifif, located in the northeast of the country, roughly 110 kilometers south of Kidal, following the arrival of reinforcements for the FLA.
The statement emphasized the resilience of Malian troops, stating: “Confronted by these renewed pressures, the Malian Armed Forces fought tenaciously throughout the day, displaying unwavering courage and discipline.”
The military reaffirmed its complete confidence in the ability of the Malian Armed Forces to safeguard national unity, protect civilian populations, and decisively defeat enemy forces.
The FLA’s spokesperson, Mohamed Mouloud Ramadan, had previously claimed in an interview that the group maintained control over Anifif following the resumption of hostilities.
The FLA also refuted reports of the death of its leader, Mbarek Ag Akli, asserting that he remains actively involved in directing military operations across northern Mali.
