Lomé kicks off special blood donation drive ahead of world blood donor day 2026

The National Blood Transfusion Centre (CNTS) in Lomé is rallying residents of the capital and surrounding areas for a special blood donation campaign ahead of the 22nd World Blood Donor Day, celebrated annually on June 14.

Under this year’s theme, « A drop of humanity. Give blood. Save lives », the CNTS has designated Friday, June 12, 2026 as the day for a dedicated blood collection drive, running from 8:00 AM to 4:00 PM.

Two convenient donation centres in Lomé

Donors can visit one of two locations to contribute:

  • the CNTS headquarters in Tokoin Doumasséssé, directly opposite EPP Doumasséssé 1;
  • the Tokoin Collection and Distribution Post (PCD), located within the Sylvanus Olympio University Hospital, behind the hemodialysis unit.

Urgent call for solidarity to meet medical needs

By organizing this initiative, the CNTS aims to bolster national blood reserves and ensure hospitals have the supplies they need. The centre strongly encourages widespread community participation, emphasizing that a single donation can potentially save multiple lives.

« We are all connected through this act of giving, » stated officials from the National Blood Transfusion Centre, urging citizens to step forward and make this campaign a success through their generosity and civic spirit.

The CNTS expresses its deep gratitude to all volunteers in advance, recognizing their vital role in supporting patients who rely on blood transfusions for their treatment.
