Liverpool’s pursuit of Yan Diomande has hit a snag as the RB Leipzig winger opts for a switch to Ligue 1 champions Paris Saint-Germain. The Reds, who had initially prioritized the 19-year-old talent, now face a void in their attacking plans. Diomande, whose standout performances at the World Cup caught the eye, is poised to sign with PSG following prolonged negotiations.

The Bundesliga side had initially demanded a hefty transfer fee, which proved prohibitive for Liverpool. The Reds were unwilling to meet Leipzig’s asking price, ultimately ending their pursuit of the young Ivorian international.

With Diomande’s departure seemingly confirmed, Liverpool has turned its attention to Bradley Barcola, another Paris Saint-Germain-linked talent. The 23-year-old winger has been shortlisted by Anfield’s recruitment team, with his profile aligning closely with the club’s long-term needs. Barcola is viewed as a potential successor to Mohamed Salah, especially after the successful acquisition of Victor Munoz from Osasuna.

Barcola’s situation at PSG is far from straightforward. Despite remaining a valued player, his future with the club is clouded by limited game time in high-stakes matches. His frustration was evident after being omitted from the starting lineup in PSG’s recent Champions League final victory over Arsenal, raising doubts about his long-term prospects under manager Luis Enrique.

While PSG has no immediate plans to offload Barcola, the club may be forced into a sale this summer. With just two years remaining on his contract, the Parisians are keen to secure a substantial fee if Barcola opts against a renewal. The club is unlikely to part with him cheaply but would not stand in the way of a lucrative offer.

Arsenal has been mentioned as a potential destination, though the Gunners appear focused on other targets for now. As the transfer window intensifies, Liverpool stands out as the most determined club to test PSG’s resolve, particularly if Barcola returns from international duty unsettled about his role within the team.

Since joining PSG in the summer of 2023 for a reported €45 million, Barcola has made 152 appearances across all competitions, netting 39 goals and providing 37 assists. His achievements with the club include twelve trophies, notably two Champions League titles and three Ligue 1 championships.

On the international stage, Barcola has also made his mark with the French national team, scoring against Senegal and assisting in a World Cup group-stage match against Norway.
