Complaint Filed Following Controversial Statements About Touba

Serigne Modou Maroun Niang, a Senegalese citizen, economic operator, and grandson of the founder of Touba, has taken this step. In a correspondence dated July 14, 2026, he argues that the remarks attributed to Sonko, the leader of PASTEF, severely tarnish the reputation and dignity of Touba and its residents.
According to Niang, Sonko publicly claimed that “dirty money has entered the holy city of Touko.” Such an assertion, he contends, contradicts the core values of Touba—faith, integrity, justice, and diligence—inherited from Cheikh Ahmadou Bamba, the city’s revered founder. The complaint emphasizes that these comments undermine the sanctity of a place built on spiritual and moral foundations.
The Collective of the Grandchildren of Serigne Touba, represented by Niang, is demanding urgent judicial action. Their request includes:
