Legal action against Ousmane Sonko validated before investigators

La plainte contre Ousmane Sonko à la Sûreté Urbaine confirmée devant les enquêteurs

The legal challenge initiated against Ousmane Sonko following his controversial remarks about the holy city of Touba has been officially upheld. Serigne Makhtar Bousso, representing the complainants, confirmed this stance during his hearing with investigators on Tuesday.

Legal action over controversial remarks maintained

This legal action stems from a formal petition submitted to the public prosecutor on July 14, 2026, by Serigne Modou Maroun Niang and Serigne Mourtalla Bousso. Both individuals, who are grandsons of the revered Cheikh Ahmadou Bamba, took issue with statements made by the President of the National Assembly during the opening of the Pastef headquarters in Mbacké. During that event, Ousmane Sonko allegedly asserted that illicit funds had made their way into the holy city of Touba.

Allegations of illicit funds in Touba

According to the complainants, such assertions tarnish the reputation and dignity of Touba, a city established by Cheikh Ahmadou Bamba on the pillars of spiritual dedication and moral rectitude. They are demanding that the official clarify his comments and present concrete evidence to back up his claims. Serigne Makhtar Bousso strongly reiterated this demand, emphasizing the necessity of uncovering the complete truth regarding these allegations against the sacred city.
