The disciplinary committee of France’s professional football league has confirmed Le Mans FC’s victory over Bastia in the final matchday of Ligue 2, sealing the club’s promotion to Ligue 1 after a 16-year absence from the elite division.

Four days after the dramatic conclusion to their season, Le Mans FC has officially been promoted to Ligue 1. The club from the Sarthe department finished second in the 2025-2026 Ligue 2 campaign, secured by their 2-0 away triumph against Bastia on Saturday, May 9th. The disciplinary committee of the French Professional Football League validated this result on Wednesday, May 13th, as announced by the club president to the 24,000-strong crowd celebrating at the Marie Marvingt stadium.

The match’s outcome, which determined the season’s final standings, had been suspended since Saturday evening. Referee Ruddy Buquet had halted play following flares launched onto the pitch after Le Mans FC’s second goal in stoppage time. He indicated shortly afterward that the game would not resume, yet he never blew the final whistle.

Under these circumstances, the disciplinary committee was tasked with deciding the match’s result and potential sanctions against the Corsican club whose supporters disrupted proceedings. Bastia will now face two closed-door matches and one suspended game at the Armand-Cesari stadium.
