The spiritual leader of Senegal’s Mouride brotherhood, Serigne Mountakha Mbacké, has renewed calls for national peace, unity, and social cohesion ahead of the 2026 Grand Magal of Touba.
On July 30, Ousmane Sonko, President of the National Assembly, paid a courtesy visit to the Khalife general in the holy city of Touba. The meeting centered on the upcoming celebration, scheduled for August 2, 2026, which honors the exile of Cheikh Ahmadou Bamba, the founder of the Mouride order.
During the visit, Sonko conveyed deep respect to the spiritual guide and highlighted the spiritual significance of the Magal, emphasizing values of faith, perseverance, and collective harmony. In response, the Khalife general underscored the importance of unity as a cornerstone for Senegal’s progress, urging all citizens to embrace solidarity.
The Khalife general also offered prayers for Sonko’s well-being and for the nation, reinforcing the event’s role as a unifying force for the Senegalese people.
