Ivory Coast reaffirms unwavering support for Morocco’s territorial integrity

The Ivory Coast has once again expressed its firm backing for Morocco’s territorial integrity and sovereignty over its entire territory, including the Western Sahara region. This commitment was clearly stated in an official joint communiqué following high-level talks between Morocco’s Minister of Foreign Affairs, Nasser Bourita, and Ivory Coast’s Minister of State for Foreign Affairs, Nialé Kaba, during her official working visit to Morocco.

During the discussions, Nialé Kaba renewed Abidjan’s long-standing support for Rabat’s position, emphasizing the alignment of Ivory Coast’s stance with Morocco’s autonomy initiative as the most credible solution for the regional dispute.

Diplomatic alignment strengthens international recognition

Ivory Coast also welcomed the United Nations Security Council’s adoption of Resolution 2797, which recognizes Morocco’s autonomy plan as the most serious and credible basis for a lasting solution to the regional conflict. Additionally, Abidjan highlighted the opening of a general consulate in Laâyoune in 2020, further underscoring the depth of bilateral relations between the two nations.

In response, Nasser Bourita conveyed Morocco’s deep appreciation for Ivory Coast’s consistent position, praising the robust strategic partnership between Rabat and Abidjan built on mutual trust and strengthened South-South cooperation.

Strategic partnership deepens with shared regional vision

The Ivory Coast’s endorsement of Morocco’s position reflects a broader alignment on key regional issues, reinforcing economic and political ties between West Africa and North Africa. This diplomatic synergy highlights the growing importance of coordinated African solutions to continental challenges.
