High-level french delegation heads to rab at for strategic talks

At the helm of a high-level French delegation, Prime Minister Sébastien Lecornu is set to land in Rabat today for a significant state visit aimed at bolstering the long-standing strategic partnership between France and Morocco.

The delegation, comprising twelve ministers, reflects the exceptional scope of this engagement. Among the key figures joining Lecornu are Laurent Nunez (Interior), Catherine Vautrin (Defense and Veterans Affairs), Roland Lescure (Economy and Sovereignty), and Jean-Noël Barrot (Europe and Foreign Affairs). Also part of the entourage are ministers specializing in agriculture, culture, transport, vocational training, and artificial intelligence, alongside delegates for overseas territories, external trade, and Francophonie.

The visit coincides with the 15th High-Level Meeting (HLM) between France and Morocco, a diplomatic milestone that has not convened since 2019. Scheduled at the Moroccan Ministry of Foreign Affairs, the two-day event will be co-chaired by the Prime Ministers of both nations, setting the stage for a renewed bilateral cooperation agenda.

Key focus areas for the 15th Morocco-France High-Level Meeting

The agenda for this strategic dialogue is packed with critical topics, including:

  • Internal security and counterterrorism
  • Migration control and organized crime prevention
  • Water resource management and agricultural development
  • Cultural exchange programs and educational initiatives, such as Arabic language instruction within French schools
  • Infrastructure modernization, defense industry collaboration, and preparations for the 2030 FIFA World Cup

Economic collaboration remains a cornerstone of the partnership, with ongoing projects like the expansion of Safran Electronics & Defense’s industrial site and Alstom’s new manufacturing facility in Fès taking center stage.

A new chapter in Morocco-France relations

This meeting arrives on the heels of the Enhanced Exceptional Partnership agreement inked in October 2024 between King Mohammed VI and President Emmanuel Macron. The discussions will evaluate the progress of existing initiatives while charting the course for future collaboration.

The final day of the HLM is expected to culminate in the signing of over a dozen agreements spanning regional development, transportation, water management, cinema, aviation, and cultural residencies. Notably, a comprehensive bilateral treaty is also on the horizon, poised to institutionalize the partnership between the two nations ahead of King Mohammed VI’s upcoming state visit to France.

The visit by Sébastien Lecornu and his delegation underscores France’s commitment to deepening ties with Morocco, reinforcing a relationship built on shared priorities and mutual growth.
