The inaugural group of Burkinabè pilgrims successfully arrived back in Ouagadougou on Tuesday, June 2, 2026. A total of 342 devoted individuals disembarked onto the airport tarmac, where they were met with heartfelt embraces from their families and a welcoming presence from government officials. This initial flight signifies the commencement of the return phase for pilgrims to Burkina Faso, following their profound spiritual journey to Islam’s holiest sites over several weeks.

Having fulfilled the sacred fifth pillar of Islam, the first wave of Hajj 2026 pilgrims made their way home. The Tuesday, June 2 arrival of the first flight carrying these faithful adherents at Ouagadougou International Airport marked the beginning of their much-anticipated return.

Adorned in vibrant traditional boubous, the immense joy on the faces of these pilgrims was palpable, reflecting their profound happiness at having answered this spiritual calling. This sentiment was deeply shared by Hadja Karidja Karambiri/Koné, who was visibly moved the moment she stepped off the aircraft.

« My experience in Mecca was truly exceptional. As a first-time pilgrim, I feel incredibly fulfilled and overjoyed. Everything unfolded wonderfully… We offered fervent prayers for the restoration of peace and social cohesion across Burkina Faso ».

While refraining from presenting a final assessment at this stage, Saïdou Sankara, the Secretary General of the Ministry of Territorial Administration and Mobility, assured the public of the smooth execution of this year’s Hajj. He confirmed that, to date, no significant incidents had been reported. He conveyed the government’s profound gratitude upon the arrival of this first flight.

« It is with immense satisfaction and joy that we stand here this evening, witnessing our brothers and sisters return in good health after completing their pilgrimage. We are here, on behalf of the Minister of State, to extend our warmest welcome and heartfelt congratulations to them.

We earnestly hope that this spiritual endeavor will deepen their faith. May all the prayers offered in Mecca be answered, not only for them and their families but for our entire nation », he declared.

For its part, the Federation of Islamic Associations of Burkina (FAIB), represented by El Hadj Oumarou Zoungrana, expressed immense satisfaction with the quality of the organization.
