Gabon’s president meets Libreville mayor to discuss urban renewal plans

The President of the Republic received the Mayor of Libreville, Eugène Mba, for a strategic meeting focused on assessing local governance progress and strengthening state-municipal coordination to better serve citizens.

During the discussion, the Mayor presented a comprehensive report on the implementation of his strategic roadmap, introduced a newly restructured municipal team, and outlined key action priorities designed to revitalize the capital city. The conversation centered on transformative projects aimed at reshaping Libreville’s urban landscape.

Key initiatives discussed include reorganizing urban spaces, developing modern parking facilities, expanding green and botanical areas, addressing unauthorized public land occupation, and enhancing neighborhood infrastructure to elevate living standards. A major emphasis was placed on modernizing municipal operations through digital transformation.

This modernization effort aims to streamline citizen procedures, enhance public service quality, promote transparency, secure revenue collection, and significantly boost the city’s own financial resources. The President also stressed the urgency of accelerating urban sanitation efforts, underlining cleanliness as a critical benchmark for any forward-thinking capital. This means prioritizing efficient waste collection, transport, treatment, and recycling to ensure a healthier environment for residents.

Reaffirming his commitment to building a modern and appealing Gabon, the Head of State emphasized that Libreville, as the nation’s showcase, must meet international standards in urban planning, local governance, and public service excellence. He urged the Mayor to demonstrate discipline, innovation, and efficiency in executing these ambitious plans. The meeting underscores the government’s intention to position local governments as central drivers of national development, keeping citizen needs at the forefront of public policy.
