Gabon’s open innovation challenge kimba connect 2026 kicks off in Libreville

Gabon launches Kimba Connect 2026, a national open innovation challenge

The Ministry of Digital Economy, Digitalization, and Innovation, alongside the Federation of Gabonese Enterprises (FEG), has officially inaugurated Kimba Connect 2026 at the headquarters of the Central African States Bank (BEAC) in Libreville. This groundbreaking initiative is Gabon’s first national open innovation challenge, designed to bridge the gap between businesses facing modernization hurdles and local startups offering tailored digital solutions.

The program’s core mechanism involves a call for challenges directed at enterprises, which startups will address through innovative project proposals. The most promising submissions will receive mentorship to refine and implement their solutions.

The application window remains open until midnight on July 14, with preselection results announced on July 24. The grand finale is scheduled for August 4, 2026.

Minister Doumba emphasizes real-world impact of innovation

Mark Alexandre Doumba, Gabon’s Minister of Digital Economy, stressed that “innovation holds value only when it solves tangible problems.” He highlighted that Kimba Connect 2026 will empower businesses to convert challenges into growth opportunities while granting startups enhanced market access and visibility.

Driving digital transformation through collaboration

The initiative aims to:

  • Foster open innovation and strengthen ties between established enterprises and startups.
  • Accelerate digital transformation across Gabon’s economy.
  • Showcase Gabonese talent and boost the competitiveness of local businesses.
  • Encourage private-sector engagement to co-create homegrown digital solutions.

By fostering these synergies, the government seeks to enhance business competitiveness, support innovative entrepreneurship, and diversify the national economy through digital advancements.

Kimba Connect 2026 aligns with Gabon’s broader strategy to modernize its economy and nurture local innovation ecosystems.
