Gabon and Madagascar deepen diplomatic ties through high-level talks

The visit of Colonel Michaël Randrianirina to Libreville last Friday marked a significant step in strengthening ties between Gabon and Madagascar. The Malagasy leader engaged in discussions with President Brice Clotaire Oligui Nguema at the Palais Rénovation, focusing on deepening bilateral cooperation and Madagascar’s ongoing refoundation process.

The two-day working visit included a special briefing by Professor Guy Rossatanga-Rignault, who outlined Gabon’s transition journey and the principles guiding its return to constitutional order. President Oligui Nguema reaffirmed Gabon’s commitment to supporting Madagascar in restoring its institutional framework.

In response, the Malagasy delegation expressed admiration for Gabon’s governance model, particularly its approach to institutional consolidation. Both leaders praised the strong bilateral relations, highlighting shared goals in stability and development. This meeting follows Madagascar’s political transition in October 2025, when Colonel Randrianirina assumed leadership amid widespread youth protests over critical water and electricity shortages that led to the resignation of former President Andry Rajoelina.
