Gabon adopts high-tech excise stamps to curb fraud and boost revenue

Gabon to deploy cutting-edge excise stamps in fight against fraud

Gabon is on the verge of transforming its tax compliance framework by integrating state-of-the-art excise stamps. This groundbreaking initiative was the focal point of a high-level meeting on June 10, 2026, between Vice-President of the Government Herman Immongault and a senior delegation from the Canadian Bank Note Company (CBN), led by Vice-President Fuencisla Santiago. The discussions centered on deploying a tamper-proof tracking system designed to secure excisable goods and enhance fiscal transparency across critical supply chains.

The proposed solution leverages advanced authentication technology embedded in excise stamps, enabling end-to-end monitoring of products from production to point of sale. This innovation directly targets the persistent challenges of counterfeit goods, illicit trade, and tax evasion that disproportionately impact sectors such as tobacco, alcoholic beverages, pharmaceuticals, and cosmetics. “We presented to the Vice-President a partnership opportunity to equip Gabon with a system that strengthens revenue collection by ensuring strict compliance with excise duties,” Santiago noted following the productive dialogue.

Securing public revenue while safeguarding consumer welfare

Beyond boosting state coffers, the high-tech stamps promise to elevate consumer protection by drastically reducing the circulation of substandard or counterfeit products. By providing full traceability, the system empowers regulatory bodies to detect irregularities swiftly, promote adherence to health and safety standards, and restore confidence in legitimate market channels. This strategic move aligns with Gabon’s broader agenda to digitalize its economy and fortify commercial integrity nationwide.

As illicit networks exploit weaknesses in traditional control mechanisms, the adoption of proven anti-fraud technology positions Gabon at the forefront of fiscal modernization. By integrating these stamps, the government aims to streamline tax administration, enhance revenue collection efficiency, and build a more resilient economic framework for sustainable growth.
