French Prime Minister Sébastien Lecornu touched down in Rabat Wednesday evening for a two-day official visit aimed at bolstering the strategic partnership between France and Morocco. The trip comes as diplomatic ties between the two nations continue to thaw after years of strained relations.

Welcomed at the airport by Morocco’s Prime Minister Aziz Akhannouch, Lecornu arrived with a 12-member ministerial delegation. The visit follows a concerted effort by both capitals to deepen cooperation across multiple sectors.

The highlight of the visit will be the bilateral meeting between Lecornu and Akhannouch, followed by the co-chairing of the 15th High-Level Franco-Moroccan Meeting. This key dialogue platform, which serves as the primary framework for political and economic consultation between the two countries, has not convened since 2019.

Key discussion points will include strengthening economic exchanges, fostering cross-border investments, enhancing security and defense cooperation, and addressing critical issues such as energy, infrastructure development, and ecological transition.

French and Moroccan authorities anticipate the signing of around 15 agreements during the visit.

The accords will cover civil aviation, water management, strategic infrastructure, electricity interconnection, security cooperation, and multiple cultural initiatives.

In the cultural sphere, both nations will formalize a strategic partnership between the Institut du Monde Arabe in Paris and Morocco’s Ministry of Culture. This collaboration aims to enhance artistic, heritage, and academic exchanges between the two countries.
