Following reports from our correspondent in Bangui, the incident unfolded in the village of Gasol, where two Cameroonian gendarmes, armed with Kalashnikov rifles, entered Central African territory. Local residents filmed the unauthorized incursion, alleging extortion by the soldiers.

A Central African military unit, deployed in the region, intervened promptly. The gendarmes were disarmed and escorted to the Beloko police station near the border, as the incident was deemed a violation of national sovereignty.

High-level discussions restore calm

On Tuesday, high-ranking officials from both countries convened to address the situation. The meeting concluded with a commitment to uphold each nation’s sovereignty and territorial integrity. The seized weapons were returned to Cameroonian authorities, and a joint monitoring committee was established to resolve the dispute.

Tensions have simmered for years, with Central African officials accusing Cameroon of illegally occupying parts of the border zone—a claim Yaoundé continues to deny.
