Prime Minister Ousmane Sonko made an early exit from a patriotic walking event this Sunday, May 17, 2026. The trek, organized by Dakar Mayor Abass Fall, was themed ‘the march towards 2029’, signaling future political aspirations in West Africa.
It was observed that the head of government could not complete the walk alongside other participants due to significant crowd control issues and overwhelming congestion at the venue.
This situation drew strong condemnation from Dakar Mayor Abass Fall, who publicly criticized the lack of discipline displayed by some attendees.
“We are confronting a serious issue,” the Mayor declared. “We cannot invite an authority figure here only for people to act without discipline. This is simply not good. We came together for a walk, so why can’t participants maintain order? He has now returned home because of this very problem.”
When pressed by a journalist about the fervent affection supporters showed for Prime Minister Ousmane Sonko, Abass Fall responded, “Affection must be paired with intelligence. One needs to be intelligent. This truly is a significant challenge!”
