Abidjan, July 24, 2026 – In a bid to promote unity and inclusivity, Adama Bictogo, the mayor of Yopougon, will embark on a nationwide tour across four political formations in his constituency before the country’s 66th Independence Day celebrations on August 7.
According to a press release issued by Bictogo’s office on Friday, the tour is part of the preparations for the festivities and aims to engage with the local population, including militants and residents from various quarters.
The tour will take Bictogo to Kouté, Sicogi Vegas, the headquarters of the Rassemblement des houphouëtistes pour la démocratie et la paix (RHDP), and Maroc Kimi, where he will meet with representatives from the Congrès panafricain pour la justice et l’égalité des peuples (COJEP), the Parti démocratique de Côte d’Ivoire-Rassemblement démocratique africain (PDCI-RDA), and the Front populaire ivoirien (FPI).
The initiative is part of a broader effort to mobilize the population, led by the Yopougon Fête nationale committee, which seeks to bring together all political sensibilities in the commune to celebrate the country’s independence.
Yopougon has been chosen as the venue for the celebrations due to its reputation as a hub of diversity and inclusivity. The event aims to be a moment of national unity, beyond partisan affiliations.
The tour is also aimed at reinforcing grassroots engagement, particularly among local militants and residents, in the preparations for this year’s Independence Day celebrations.
This initiative follows a series of meetings held on July 13, where representatives from all four formations came together to discuss preparations for the festivities.
During these meetings, Adama Bictogo emphasized the need for unity and coordination to ensure the success of the event. ‘A unified command is necessary to achieve our goals,’ he said, urging the different parties to adopt a ‘discourse of peace and unity.’
The mayor also stressed that this collective mobilization should not be seen as benefiting one party over another, but rather as an opportunity for all to grow together.
As the country gears up for its 66th Independence Day celebrations, Adama Bictogo’s nationwide tour appears to be a crucial step towards promoting unity and inclusivity.
