As Chad anticipates the 66th anniversary of its independence, slated for August 11, 2026, Pahimi Padacké Albert, who leads the Rassemblement national des démocrates tchadiens (RNDT-Le Réveil) and stands as a prominent opposition figure, has issued a heartfelt plea for national unity, societal appeasement, and genuine reconciliation.
In his declaration marking this significant national observance, the former Prime Minister conveyed his message to the Chadian populace with profound humility, gravity, and a sense of responsibility.
Pahimi Padacké Albert underscored that this year’s commemoration unfolds against a backdrop of palpable political strains and widespread frustrations. “We celebrate our freedom this year within a climate of silent yet heavy political tension, and frustrations fueled by a pervasive sense of multidimensional exclusion,” he articulated.
In response to this challenging environment, the head of RNDT-Le Réveil advocates for enhanced dialogue and greater openness. He reiterated, “Today, I once again responsibly appeal for unity, for calm, for a spirit of openness, and for the reconciliation of hearts across our nation.”
In his comprehensive address, Pahimi Padacké Albert directly engaged with President Mahamat Idriss Déby Itno, urging him to implement decisive measures aimed at strengthening national cohesion.
He stated, “On the eve of this celebration, I solemnly call upon all Chadians, and first among them, the Marshal of Chad, President of the Republic, Mahamat Idriss Déby Itno: May strong decisions emerge to conquer feelings of exclusion and further unite our people within the Chadian family. May the constitutional means at the disposal of the Head of State be mobilized to restore freedom to political actors whose rightful place is not in prison. May a true political opening, founded on frank, fraternal, and patriotic discussions, enshrine this drive for appeasement, respecting the rich political, cultural, and religious diversities of the country’s sons and daughters.”
