Chad takes bold step toward digitalizing technical and vocational training
The Ministry of Higher Education, Scientific Research, and Professional Training convened a pivotal national workshop in N’Djamena to validate an in-depth diagnostic report on the current state of digital readiness in Technical and Vocational Education and Training (TVET). The gathering brought together key stakeholders to review, refine, and endorse a foundational document that will shape Chad’s future TVET digitalization strategy.
This initiative aligns with the Pan-African Initiative for TVET Digital Transformation, supported by global and regional partners including UNESCO, the African Union Development Agency (AUDA-NEPAD), the African Development Bank, and the UN Economic Commission for Africa. The assessment engaged over 200 participants from 57 TVET centers nationwide through comprehensive field missions and digital data collection, covering every academic region in the country.
The workshop was inaugurated by Dr. Djininboh Gabriel, Director General of Human Resources, Statistics, and Digitalization, representing the Secretary of State for Higher Education. He emphasized that digital transformation has become a cornerstone for aligning TVET systems with rapid technological advancements and evolving job market demands. “The government views digitalization as a powerful catalyst for modernizing Chad’s technical and vocational education ecosystem,” he stated.
Dr. Gabriel acknowledged significant progress while highlighting critical challenges in digital governance, infrastructure limitations, internet connectivity gaps, energy supply constraints, trainer upskilling needs, and the integration of digital competencies into curricula. He urged participants to contribute their insights to ensure the final strategy reflects national realities and remains both inclusive and actionable.
The validated report will serve as the blueprint for Chad’s National TVET Digital Transformation Strategy and its 2026–2030 operational action plan. The vision is to establish a TVET system that is resilient, competitive, and fully responsive to labor market demands by the end of the decade.
