Cameroon president paul biya’s prolonged absence fuels speculation

Cameroon: where is President Paul Biya?

For over 50 days, President Paul Biya has not made any public appearances since his last confirmed outing on June 7, when the Cameroon Tribune reported his departure for a “short private stay in Europe.” At 93 years old, the prolonged silence and lack of official updates about his whereabouts or return date have intensified concerns about the continuity of state governance. Opposition parties are now questioning whether this constitutes a “power vacuum,” a situation of “autopilot governance,” or even a government operating in “remote work mode.” What does Cameroon’s Constitution say about an extended presidential absence? Could this situation lead to significant administrative and political blockages in managing the country’s key issues?
