Benin stands with Niger after attack near Niamey airport

The government of Bénin has extended its unwavering solidarity to the people of Niger following the violent incidents that unfolded on Thursday, June 18, 2026 near the Diori-Hamani International Airport in Niamey.

The authorities in Cotonou released an official statement expressing deep concern and strong condemnation of the attack, which targeted a critical civilian infrastructure.

“The Bénin government firmly condemns this act of aggression, which not only strikes at a vital civilian facility but also endangers the lives of innocent people,” the communiqué emphasized.

In their response, the Bénin government reaffirmed its full support for both the people and authorities of Niger, including President Abdourahamane Tiani. The statement also highlighted the deep historical ties of friendship and brotherhood that bind the two nations together.
