Benin government extends civil engineers registration deadline

Civil engineers in Benin get extended registration window

The Ministry of Housing and Transport has granted a fresh 30-day window for Beninese civil engineers to complete their registration with the National Order of Civil Engineers of Benin. This extension applies to all eligible professionals, whether based locally or overseas.

Georges Alé: Benin's Minister of Housing, Transport, and Sustainable Development
Georges Alé oversees the extension of registration deadlines for civil engineers in Benin.

Who qualifies for this registration extension?

This opportunity is open to all Beninese civil engineers holding recognized qualifications, including:

  • Master’s degrees in engineering recognized by the Beninese state and CAMES
  • Equivalent professional engineering diplomas
  • Specialists in building and public works, geotechnics, transport infrastructure, hydraulics, energy infrastructure, sanitation, environmental engineering, electronics, IT, and telecommunications

Why this extension matters

The Ministry emphasizes that this extension aligns with Decree No. 2021-300 of June 9, 2021, which governs the civil engineering profession. By allowing more time for registration, the government aims to ensure comprehensive participation before finalizing Benin’s first-ever National Order of Civil Engineers register.

Eligible engineers are strongly encouraged to complete their registration through the official portal onic.bj within the 30-day window following the announcement’s publication. This step is crucial for establishing Benin’s professional civil engineering body and ensuring all practitioners meet national standards.
