Benin and World Bank Launch Decennial Partnership for Employment and Human Capital
The Government of Benin and the World Bank have launched a decennial partnership to support Benin’s economic transformation, with a focus on employment and human capital development.
A new era of cooperation has been opened up between Benin and the World Bank Group (WBG), following the official launch of a Partnership Country Framework (PCF) 2026-2036 in Cotonou, to support an inclusive and sustainable economic transformation of this West African country.
Key Features of the Partnership
- The PCF 2026-2036 is designed to accompany Benin’s development priorities over the next decade, with a focus on three key areas: strengthening human capital through better nutrition, health, and skills training; improving access to essential infrastructure; and accelerating economic transformation driven by the private sector.
The partnership also includes the goals of the Resilience Program, aimed at reinforcing national stability and cohesion in Benin.
World Bank Director-General Anna Bjerde Praises Partnership
Anna Bjerde, World Bank Director-General, welcomed the ambitions expressed by President Romuald Wadagni and his government, noting that the partnership launch coincides with a critical moment for the country, marked by new political dynamics and a strategic vision «Alafia Benin 2060».
Investment in Human Capital Key to Growth
Bjerde emphasized that the investment in human capital and productive infrastructure will be essential for sustainable growth and job creation in Benin.
