Discussions between these two European football powerhouses are reaching a crucial juncture as they endeavor to bridge their valuation discrepancies. Manchester City is reportedly seeking a transfer package nearing 80 million euros (approximately £69 million) to sanction the midfielder’s departure.

Barcelona’s most recent formal bid, totaling 60 million euros plus an additional 10 million euros in performance-related bonuses, was declined by Manchester City. A subsequent revised proposal, escalating to 75 million euros, also failed to secure the transfer, prompting further structured negotiations throughout the weekend.

The primary sticking point in the ongoing negotiations revolves around the precise financial framework of the transfer. City aims to maximize the guaranteed portion of the fee, while Barcelona is working to mitigate its upfront guaranteed expenditure.

Both clubs are currently exploring two main compromise structures to meet the desired valuation. One suggested arrangement involves 70 million euros in fixed payments alongside reduced bonuses, whereas another proposes 65 million euros as a fixed sum complemented by 15 million euros in performance-based add-ons.

Significantly, Rodri has already expressed his resolute desire to leave England and has prioritized a switch to Barcelona. With any alternative interest from Real Madrid now completely off the table, the midfielder’s unequivocal stance has provided the Blaugrana with considerable leverage during these critical discussions.

Rodri recently returned to England to commence pre-season training with Manchester City, having requested a brief extension to resolve his future. He intends to regain match fitness with City, even if his tenure in Manchester appears set for an imminent conclusion.

Barcelona’s hierarchy considers City’s valuation somewhat steep, particularly given that the midfielder has only one year remaining on his current contract. Nevertheless, the Catalan management acknowledges the necessity of meeting the English club’s financial demands to secure his signature without further delay.

Should Barcelona successfully adhere to its self-imposed deadline, Rodri is anticipated to travel to Catalonia shortly after the deal is finalized.
