Algerian Prime Minister Sifi Ghrieb held a significant meeting with the President of the Republic of Niger, General Abdourahamane Tiani, in Niamey on Wednesday. During their discussions, Prime Minister Ghrieb conveyed the warm fraternal greetings from Algerian President Abdelmadjid Tebboune, reaffirming President Tebboune’s personal commitment to strengthening the bonds of brotherhood, solidarity, and cooperation between these two sister nations.
This high-level engagement provided a crucial platform to thoroughly review various facets of bilateral cooperation between Algeria and Niger. Both leaders assessed the progress made in implementing the outcomes of President Tiani’s visit to Algeria last February, as well as the conclusions drawn from his discussions with President Tebboune.
The dialogue also encompassed the projects and programs previously agreed upon during the second session of the Algerian-Nigerien Grand Joint Cooperation Commission, which took place in Niamey just last March.
During the audience, President Tiani expressed his profound respect for President Tebboune and extended his gratitude for the dedicated attention President Tebboune has consistently shown towards bilateral cooperation. This focused approach has notably facilitated the rapid completion of a crucial electricity plant project, a testament to the deep fraternal and solidarity ties between the two countries. It also underscores the unwavering commitment of both leaders to forge a robust and diversified partnership, serving their shared interests and fulfilling their peoples’ aspirations for greater solidarity, integration, and development.
President Tiani further commended the impressive pace of advancement in bilateral cooperation projects and programs. He highlighted the exceptional dynamism characterizing Algeria-Niger relations as a prime example of South-South cooperation, reiterating his sincere desire, shared with President Tebboune, to elevate the relationship between the two nations to unprecedented heights.
For his part, Prime Minister Ghrieb acknowledged the remarkable level of cooperation achieved between Algeria and Niger within a short timeframe. He noted that their relationship has entered a new phase marked by common political engagement and the effective, on-the-ground realization of agreed cooperation projects and programs. This progress, he emphasized, is a direct result of the high-level directives from both countries’ leaders and their dedication to ensuring consistent and rigorous follow-up on their jointly established roadmap.
Mr. Sifi Ghrieb reaffirmed Algeria’s steadfast commitment to continuously work towards strengthening bilateral cooperation, particularly in key priority sectors. These include energy, hydrocarbons, infrastructure, health, training, higher education, digital technology, and transportation. He also stressed the importance of overseeing and bringing to fruition significant structuring projects across the region, which are vital for fostering economic development and enhancing regional integration.
Discussions also delved into the monitoring of commercial and economic cooperation programs and strategic regional initiatives. Both parties underscored the critical need to accelerate the implementation pace of these endeavors to effectively support economic growth and fortify regional integration.
On the regional front, the two delegations reviewed current challenges. They emphasized the ongoing necessity for bilateral consultation and coordination to address these issues, thereby contributing significantly to reinforcing peace, security, and stability throughout the region.
