Algeria’s Prime Minister, Sifi Ghrieb, paid an official visit to Niamey on Wednesday, where he was received by Niger’s Head of State, General Abdourahamane Tiani.

landmark electricity project finalized ahead of schedule
This high-level interaction provided an opportunity to assess the progress of bilateral cooperation across multiple sectors. Both leaders reviewed the implementation status of agreements reached during President Tiani’s official visit to Algeria in February and the outcomes of his discussions with President Tebboune. Additionally, they examined projects and initiatives agreed upon during the second session of the Algerian-Nigerien joint high commission for cooperation, held in Niamey last March.
President Tiani expressed his deep appreciation for President Tebboune’s personal dedication to bilateral cooperation, highlighting how this commitment led to the rapid completion of a major electricity generation project. This achievement underscores the strong fraternal and solidarity ties between the two nations and their shared determination to build a robust, diversified partnership that serves their mutual interests and meets the development aspirations of their peoples.
a shining example of South-South cooperation
President Tiani praised the exceptional pace of progress in bilateral cooperation projects, calling the Algerian-Nigerien partnership a model for South-South collaboration. He reaffirmed his and President Tebboune’s sincere determination to elevate the relationship to even greater heights.
Prime Minister Ghrieb, for his part, commended the significant strides made in cooperation over a short period. He noted that the relationship had entered a new phase marked by stronger political alignment and tangible progress on the ground, thanks to the visionary guidance and consistent follow-through by the leaders of both countries.
regional peace and stability take center stage
Ghrieb reiterated Algeria’s commitment to continuing its efforts to enhance bilateral cooperation, particularly in priority areas such as energy, hydrocarbons, infrastructure, healthcare, education, higher learning, digital technology, and transportation. He also emphasized the importance of tracking and advancing key regional projects that contribute to economic development and deeper regional integration.
The discussions also covered the progress of trade and economic cooperation programs, with both sides stressing the need to expedite implementation to bolster economic growth and reinforce regional integration. On regional challenges, they agreed on the importance of sustained bilateral consultation and coordination to address issues and contribute to lasting peace, security, and stability in the area.
