Abdourahmane Diouf questions luxury vehicle purchases linked to political funds during Sonko’s tenure

Abdourahmane Diouf addresses state vehicles

The contentious debate surrounding the administration of political funds within the Primature has taken a fresh turn. This Tuesday, Abdourahmane Diouf publicly addressed previous statements made by Ousmane Sonko, who had acknowledged utilizing political allocations from the Primature for acquiring vehicles.

Diouf recounted his personal struggles from his time as Minister of Higher Education. He described how his official state vehicle malfunctioned en route to a Sénégal national team match, mere days before a cabinet reshuffle.

Speaking on Solo Média, he lamented, “Every single car was in a state of disrepair.”

More than 900 million allocated for vehicles

Diouf asserted that during his tenure as Prime Minister, Ousmane Sonko had issued clear directives prohibiting the purchase of any new vehicles.

The current minister expressed bewilderment at the stark contrast between this earlier stance and Sonko’s subsequent announcements regarding vehicle acquisitions.

Diouf claimed that in the very same year, Sonko reportedly stated that over 900 million FCFA had been allocated to procure automobiles.

Furthermore, Diouf emphasized that these were not standard government vehicles. “These are Maybachs, luxury cars,” he declared, alleging their acquisition was financed through political funds.

Inquiries into the nature of the vehicles

The minister also contended that current administrative protocols generally preclude the state from purchasing second-hand assets. He further speculated that the vehicles in question might have been items recovered by the state.

These revelations emerge amidst a heated institutional and political discussion concerning the utilization of political funds and special budgetary allocations.

At present, the assertions regarding the sum exceeding 900 million FCFA, the specific type of vehicles, and their procurement procedures are based solely on Abdourahmane Diouf’s statements. These claims will necessitate thorough verification against available administrative and financial documentation to ascertain the precise circumstances of these purchases.
